Vixen (PG 13)

Mari Jiwe McCabe or Vixen is a Zambesi-born American businesswoman and model. She fights crime with the aid of the Tantu Totem that allows her to wield the powers of any animal in the world.

She grew up on the legend of the warrior Tantu, who asked Anansi the Spider to create a totem that would give the wearer all of the powers of any animal in the world. However, this person could only use this power to protect the innocent. The warrior Tantu used the totem to become the first legendary hero of Africa. The totem was later passed down to Tantu's descendants until it reached the McCabes and Mari.

Although she was originally introduced during DC's Earth-One era of publication. Vixen's existence following the events of the 1985 – 86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and should be considered doubtful.

Her first appearance was originally intended for the unpublished Vixen #1. The story was completed, and published in Cancelled Comic Cavalcade #2. However, when Vixen appeared in Action Comics #521, no mention was made of the earlier story, and significant changes were made to Vixen, including the names of her home country and relatives back in Africa. Therefore, the story in Cancelled Comic Cavalcade #2 is considered non-canon, and Action Comics #521 is her real first appearance.
